Mavericks Re-Sign Devean George

Apparently it pays some times to dig in your heels and stick to your guns! At least it has for veteran forward Devean George according to ”ESPN.com.”  You probably remember last February George nearly derailed the trade that brought Jason Kidd to Dallas.  And in the process, he also had Mavericks Team Owner Mark Cuban nearly stroking out.  George invoked a no-trade clause in his contract causing the deal to be put on hold for almost a week, and to scramble for substitutes. Still Cuban told the “Dallas Morning News” that he had no problem with George, however he felt differently about George’s agent Mark Bartelstein. Cuban was quoted in the report as saying “Devean George did everything right. Devean George was very clear that he was going to defer to his agent. His agent was basically going to make the decision for him. Devean is fine. His agent, that’s a whole other story. I don’t understand the agent and his logic, if there is any, behind the decision. But it’s not Devean George.”

Well George’s agent seems to be back in Cuban’s good graces. He has gotten his client a two year deal with Dallas, with a player opt out after the upcoming season. Reports out of Dallas say that new Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle wanted George back on the roster for his outside shooting ability. The contract is reported to be worth $4 million over  the two seasons.
