Remember when you were a kid, and you messed up and then had to tell your dad? Especially when you got hurt doing something you knew you weren’t supposed to be doing? No matter what kind of pain you were in the fear of calling your dad, or waiting for him to get home from work, was far worse than pain from any injury. I have the feeling Golden State Warriors point guard Monta Ellis had those same kind of emotions when he put in a call to team General Manager Chris Mullin. Ellis who signed a deal with the Warriors earlier this Summer for a reported six years and $66 million tore a ligament in his left ankle during a pick-up game last Thursday back home in Mississippi. “ESPN.com” is reporting that Ellis had surgery on the ankle Wednesday in Birmingham. Alabama. The procedure was said to be successful, but the guard will be reportedly out of commission for at least the next three months.

Ellis was expected to fill the role of departed starting point guard Baron Davis this coming season. This injury to say the least has the Warriors brain-trust scrambling for solutions. Ellis was going to use training camp to get better acclimated to being a point, after being primarily a shooting guard in the Association. Golden State is expected to start the season at this juncture with Marcus Williams getting the bulk of the minutes at point. Mullin told reporters that they believe that Ellis will contribute this season but with ankle injuries, setting a timetable can be tricky. Neither Ellis or his agent have spoken with reporters.
