That’s Why They Call It Dope, Chalmers & Arthur Busted for Pot

Here is a little helpful hint for all prospective NBA rookies class of 2009. When you are putting together your shaving kit next Summer for the NBA Rookie Transition Program, leave your weed stash in the nightstand. You will get busted, and you will be sent home. According to “ESPN The Magazine” NBA beat writer Chris Broussard, two former Kansas Jayhawks teammates found that out the hard way. Mario Chalmers who is now a point guard with the Miami Heat, and Darrell Arthur a power forward with the Memphis Grizzlies, reportedly were sent home by Association officials, after the two were caught with marijuana and women in their hotel room. Rookies are not allowed to have visitors during the program. Tim Frank speaking for the NBA verified the pair were sent home, however he did not specify the violations. Frank told reporters “The players were sent home for violating program rules. They will be appropriately sanctioned and will have to repeat the program next year.”
The Association would not confirm that the pair was fined, but sources have told Broussard that they were fine $20 thousand each. The pair who helped Kansas win a NCAA Title this Spring could start the season serving suspensions because of the incident. When human beings do things that we find inexplicable, we ask ourselves what were they thinking? Clearly in a case such as this, thinking never was involved in the process. If they thought it through it would not have occurred.

“The Team Formerly Known As The Seattle SuperSonics” has ceased to exist. Now residing in Oklahoma City is the newest franchise in the Association, the Oklahoma City Thunder. The “Associated Press” reported that Team Chairman Clay Bennett revealed the new name and logo to the public on Wednesday. The name certainly was no surprise to anyone attending the press conference. The name had been reported back in July by an OKC television station. The team’s colors are a combination of light blue, yellow, and a reddish orange. Bennett said the name was picked because it evokes emotion. The team uniforms and mascot will be made public in a few weeks.
