Ferry Builds Himself a Back Court; Sign Delonte West
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Free Agents
According to my sources from Cleveland, the Cavaliers want to retain restricted free agent guard Delonte West. Danny get Delonte signed, and you will not here any complaints from this corner for quite a while!
Ferry Gets LBJ A Point Guard Cavaliers Trade For Mo Williams
The Cleveland Cavaliers issued a press release on Friday announcing the signing of restricted free agent guard Delonte West to a multi-year contract. Per team policy terms of the deal were not disclosed. West came to Cleveland in a three way deal with the Chicago Bulls, and the former Seattle SuperSonics. West started his career with the Boston Celtics, but was traded to Seattle last Summer in the deal that brought Ray Allen to Boston. West was one of the most consistent players in the Post Season, and was a big factor in Cleveland taking the Celtics to a full seven games in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
With the trade that Cleveland made last month to acquire point guard Mo Williams from the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland now has their strongest back court since the LeBron James era began. West stated after the signing that the team showed through negotiations that they truly desired the guard to be an integral part of their future. West said “This is the first time since I was offered a scholarship at St. Joes that I feel like I am valued as a person and a player. Dan Gilbert and the Cavaliers have shown me that they value me as a person and a player and that was the most important thing to me. In that sense, this was not about a specific dollar amount. You can’t really put a dollar value on a person, their skills you can, but not their heart and what kind of person they are. My family is blessed and I feel a great relief to be able to concentrate on basketball now.”
Team General Manager Danny Ferry issued a statement after the signing. The former Cleveland forward said “We have consistently communicated our desire to keep Delonte as a member of this basketball team. His tenacity helps us on both ends of the floor and his defensive play certainly reflects how we want to play the game. Contending teams need areas of strength and need depth. Having Delonte, Mo (Williams) and Daniel (Gibson) certainly creates an advantageous situation for us.”
There had been no conversation in the national media about West in the last few weeks. Early Friday morning I posted a video of Delonte being interviewed while a member of the Boston Celtics Delonte West Uncut. Friday afternoon, Cleveland announced the signing. Coincidence? You be the judge.

Carolyn;
You know better than to ask me that. A good reporter never reaveals his or her unnamed sources. Other wise he or she will lose all their unnamed sources.
