Starbury Wants Knicks To Make A Decision On His Status
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Off The Court Issues
Looks like Stephon Marbury may be starting to blink. The “New York Post” reported Friday that the New York Knicks veteran point guard told reporters that if the team wants to release him they should just do it, instead of waiting around. Reports on Tuesday emanating from NYC stated that Knicks Team President Donnie Walsh would waive Starbury by the end of the week. The Knicks reportedly would offer Marbury a buy-out of his contract. He is signed for the upcoming season at $21.9 million.
The point guard spoke to reporters on Tuesday, and said that New York could waive him if they choose to, but Starbury will not entertain any ideas of a settlement. Marbury told reporters “There wouldn’t be no negotiation. They’re going to give me all my money. If they want to waive me and give me all my money, fine. If not, I’ll try to help this organization win the championship. They told me to come to camp in the best shape of my life and I did that. But I don’t want to be in a place I’m not wanted.”
After Marbury made his statement the talk of waiving him seemed quickly to become a thing of the past. Now reports are that Walsh is going to give Marbury very chance to make the team. Wednesday on our sister site Le Basketbawl I wrote an article entitled Knicks Should Pay Marbury What They Owe Him. However, Starbury can not have his cake and eat it too. Stephon, if you want all your money that you are owed, you can not call the shots, of when or if the team releases you. You have one of two choices, stick to your guns, and keep your mouth shut. The other option is to accept the reduced payment from the Knicks, and gain your freedom. But you can not have both.
