New Orleans Hornets coach Byron Scott will, after the team’s shootaround Wednesday, determine who will nab the backup center position, according to John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune; the two players fighting for that spot are Hilton Armstrong and Melvin Ely.  The Hornets begin their season tonight in their season opener against the Golden State Warriors in Oakland; during the preseason, Armstrong averaged 6.9 PPG and 5.0 RPG while Ely averaged 10.0 PPG and 4.4 RPG.
