A recurring theme for the Golden State Warriors at this juncture of the NBA season has been that they have collapsed late in games; Friday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors proved to be no different as while the game went into overtime, the Raptors made the most of it as they produced a 10-2 run, enabling Toronto to escape Air Canada Centre with a 112-108 win over Golden State.
Both teams played very competitive with Toronto going into the locker room with a slim 51-50 lead; fast-forwarding to the fourth quarter, the Raptors’ Chris Bosh tied the game at 96 on a pair of free throws with 14.5 seconds left in regulation. The Warriors would then give the ball to Maggette, who ran the clock down to 5 seconds before turning the ball over, giving Toronto the ball with 0.7 seconds; Raptors guard Anthony Parker took a shot which rimmed out, sending the game into overtime. The Raptors would then go on a 10-2 run, sealing the deal for Toronto.
Bosh led all Raptors scorers with 31 points along with 9 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot while Parker added 23 (including 3 treys) with 5 rebounds and 4 steals; Andrea Bargnani chipped in with 19 along with 5 rebounds and 3 blocked shots while Jose Calderon recorded a double-double with 16 with 5 rebounds, 13 assists and a steal.
Golden State was led by Al Harrington with 26 points (including six 3-pointers), along with 11 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while Stephen Jackson added 19 (with 4 treys) with 7 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal but 5 turnovers; Andris Biedrins chipped in with 17 along with 13 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot while reserve Kelenna Azubuike had another solid effort, scoring 15 with a rebound and 4 assists. Toronto (2-0) plays again on Saturday when they travel to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks while Golden State (0-2) fly east to challenge the New Jersey Nets – also on Saturday night.
