Starbury can not have his cake and eat it too. Stephon, if you want all your money that you are owed, you can not call the shots, of when or if the team releases you. You have one of two choices, stick to your guns, and keep your mouth shut. The other option is to accept the reduced payment from the Knicks, and gain your freedom. But you can not have both. Starbury Wants Knicks To Make A Decision On His Status

The reports first surfaced about a week before NBA training camp started. According to the NYC papers, the New York Knicks were going to offer a buyout at a reduced rate to perennial problem child guard Stephon Marbury. “Starbury” was fine with the concept of the buyout, but he wanted every penny due him. Marbury told reporters “ There wouldn’t be no negotiation. They’re going to give me all my money. If they want to waive me and give me all my money, fine. If not, I’ll try to help this organization win the championship. They told me to come to camp in the best shape of my life and I did that. But I don’t want to be in a place I’m not wanted!”

After the veteran made the remarks about his status he must have been told by his agent and or advisers, keep quite be magnanimous, and bide your time. And much to Marbury’s credit, he did exactly that. He said winning was much more important than starting, words that have not often come out of the controversial guards mouth.

Marbury was put on the inactive list a few days ago, most likely a preemptive move before waiving him. Team President Donnie Walsh will try once again to get the veteran to accept a reduced rate, but he is dealing from weakness. His head coach Mike D’Antoni has in no uncertain terms made it clear he wants Marbury out of his clubhouse. By keeping his emotions reined in Starbury will get what he has wanted and deserved, the money that was owed to him.
