Marbury Likely To Get Walking Papers Soon

It appears that the New York Knicks and point guard Stephon Marbury will each get their wishes as according to a published report by the New York Post, the team is on the verge of waving the embattled guard – perhaps as soon as within the next few days; Saturday brought Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni and team president Donnie Walsh together to discuss Marbury’ s future with the team and all indicators point towards Marbury getting his release relatively soon.

Sources have revealed that D’Antoni wants Marbury waived, but Walsh said that he would like to speak to Marbury first before any action is taken; he has been on the inactive list since this past Friday.  Marbury doesn’t want to negotiate a buyout of his current contract – which has this year remaining at a cost of $21.9 million – and has said that he will not accept a penny less than the remaining year’s face value.  Assuming Marbury is waived, he would have to clear waivers in 48 hours then he can negotiate with any other NBA team for the league veteran’s-minimum salary of $1.2 million; the current rumor floating around is that the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat have expressed an interest in Marbury.
