The Golden State Warriors, despite their distractions (read: Al Harrington’s trade requests, etc.), continue to soldier on as they continue to start a young team on the court night-in, night-out.  Wednesday night’s game against Denver would be no different; but to be fair, Denver was without Allen Iverson who was traded earlier in the week to the Detroit Pistons.  Golden State managed to shake off a poor first quarter and a shaky second half to hold off Denver 111-101 at Oracle Arena.

Probably the key moment for Golden State was when they made a 6-0 run on a basket by Stephen Jackson right after a 3-pointer by Denver’s J.R. Smith with 8:32 left in the game, giving the Warriors a 91-89 lead; Jackson would hit a jumper with 1:28 left that would give the Warriors a lead they would not relinquish.  Golden State was led by Jackson with 29 points with 3 rebounds, 7 assists and a steal while Kelenna Azubuike added 22 from off the bench with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot; Brandan Wright got some appreciable playing time as he scored 18 along with 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Denver was led by Carmelo Anthony with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Nene added 19 with 15 rebounds, an assist, a steal and 3 blocked shots; Dahntay Jones chipped in with 15 points, a rebound and a steal.  Golden State (2-3) plays again on Friday as they host the Memphis Grizzlies while Denver (1-3) returns home to host the Dallas Mavericks – also on Friday.
