Boston Beats Down Bucks 101-89

Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap

The Milwaukee Bucks playing without their leading scorer guard Michael Redd who was out with a sprained right ankle, took a big lead at the end of the first quarter Friday night against the Boston Celtics. The defending NBA Champs looked out of sync during the opening quarter at the “New Garden“ but they set the tempo in the remaining three quarters to handily defeat the Bucks 101-89.

The Bucks didn’t really go through a rebuild during the off-season. It was more like a reconfiguration. Gone are Mo Williams and Yi Jianlian, instead new Milwaukee coach is relying on former Nets star Richard Jefferson, and Charlie Villanueva who is now a mainstay in the starting lineup. There is individual talent, in Jefferson, Redd, Andrew Bogut, among others. So far this season though, the whole has looked like less than the sum of the individual parts.

Jefferson stoked the Bucks during the first quarter as they took a 30-23 advantage at the end of the period. Boston would get their game in gear on both ends of the court in the second, and led 55-47 at the half. Milwaukee would chip away at the Celtics lead during the third quarter, as it was a 75-70 contest as the two opponents would head into the final 12 minutes of play. Rajon Rondo drove the lane for the “Green Team“ with 10:22 left in the fourth and put the ball up and in giving his team an 82-72 lead. Milwaukee really never got close enough to threaten the rest of the game.

Paul Pierce recorded a double-double, as he scored 18 points, grabbed 10 boards, and had 7 assists, in the Boston victory. Kevin Garnett scored 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal, 1 assist, Tony Allen off of the bench scored 13 points, 4  assists, 2 steals. Eddie House had 11 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, Leon Powe scored 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block.

Jefferson was the leading scorer of the game with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals. Charlie Villanueva registered a double-double, as he scored 13 points, grabbed 12 boards, 1 assist, Luke Ridnour 12 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal.  Andrew Bogut scored 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, Ramon Sessions came off the bench scoring 11 points, 2 steals, 2 rebounds. Boston now has a record of 5-1, Milwaukee slips to 3-3.

I anticipate that the C’s are going to plow through the East. They will need to win on the road during the playoffs though to solidify their strength and not get dismissed from the playoffs b/c of a bad game.
