ESPN.com” reported that one of the worst kept secrets in the Association has finally come to pass. According to the reports, the Denver Nuggets waived veteran forward Antonio McDyess, the first step in his becoming an unrestricted free agent. McDyess was sent to Denver along with Chauncey Billups, and Cheik Samb earlier this month in a deal that sent Allen Iverson to Detroit.

Speculaton started the day of the trade, that McDyess would be asked to be bought out by Denver on the balance of his contract under the premise of his retiring. Denver reportedly settled with McDyess by giving him $6 million. If he is not claimed on waivers within the next 48 hours, he will be free to negotiate with any team in the NBA.

The predominant wisdom is that McDyess will re-sign with Detroit, he would however be restricted from signing with the Pistons until December 6, 30 days after the trade became official. There have been reports of interest from Boston, and Cleveland in the veteran joining their teams. If McDyess would choose that option he could sign immediately after clearing waivers.
