Warriors Overcome Poor 4th Quarter, Edge Timberwolves In OT 113-110
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NBA Game Recap
The Golden State Warriors continue to press on, despite their issues both on the team and upstairs in the front office; in Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, things were going according to plan, except for one detail – they almost let the game slip away from them in the fourth quarter. As it were, the game went into overtime; fortunately for Golden State, Stephen Jackson stepped up, scoring 6 points in the extra period in leading the Warriors to the 113-110 win over the Timberwolves at Oracle Arena.
Minnesota hit 9 of their first 15 shots in taking a 19-6 lead early on, yet would lose their shooting touch in the second period as the Warriors outscored the Timberwolves 31-23 in taking a 58-50 lead into their locker room at halftime. Fast-forwarding to the fourth quarter, Golden State’s Kelenna Azubuike made a pair of free throws at the 1:21 mark of regulation, bring the Warriors to within 106-104. Golden State’s C.J. Watson would make a pair of free throws, sending the game into overtime.
Overtime would see Jackson come up clutch as he drained a 3-pointer with 2:16 left in OT, and the Warriors held on the rest of the way, sending the Timberwolves to their 6th consecutive loss. Golden State’s leading scorer was Jackson with a game-high 30 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a blocked shot while Azubuike added 22 with 8 rebounds and an assist; Andris Biedrins added a double-double, scoring 13 with 15 rebounds, an assist, a steal and 2 blocked shots.
Minnesota was led by Al Jefferson with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 4 blocked shots while reserves Ryan Gomes and Rashad McCants added 18 each – with Gomes grabbing 5 rebounds with 2 steals while McCants dished out 3 assists with a steal; Randy Foye chipped in, scoring 15 with 4 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot. Golden State (3-5) plays again on Thursday when they host the Detroit Pistons while Minnesota (1-6) does not play again until Saturday when they travel north to Portland to face the Trail Blazers.
