The Detroit Pistons dominated from the opening tip as they shot 50.7% (35-69) from the floor, and all five of their starters scored in double figures, as they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night at the Staples Center 106-95. Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson each scored 25 points, to lead the team from the “Motor City” as  they handed the Lakers their first loss of the campaign.

Los Angeles looked out of sync in the first quarter, and the Pistons took full advantage grabbing a 23-16 lead at the end of the period. Both teams shot well in the second quarter, but Detroit was still able to increase their advantage walking into the locker room at the half leading 53-44. Los Angeles never was able to get any closer than 5 points down to the Pistons in the third, and Detroit had pushed the lead to 15 points, by the end of the quarter as they were ahead 77-62. The Lakers never posed a viable threat in the final 12 minutes of play.

Rasheed Wallace recorded a double-double, as he dropped 25 points, pulled down 13 boards, 2 blocks, in the Detroit victory. Allen Iverson would also contribute 25 points, 4 steals, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, Tayshaun Prince added 18 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds. Richard Hamilton had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and Kwame Brown had a surprisingly good appearance as he registered a double-double, 10 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block.

Kobe Bryant led all players as he put in 29 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block. Pau Gasol recorded a double-double, 15 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, Lamar Odom added 11 points, off of the bench, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 1 assist, 1 block. Trevor Ariza scored 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals. Detroit improves to 7-2, while Los Angeles is now 7-1.
