Cavaliers And LBJ Deal With Public’s Speculation Of The Future

While the Cavaliers are in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, and look like a team that can make a serious run at another birth in the NBA finals, the biggest question still surrounds the team almost like a noose around their necks – will LeBron James be in Cleveland in 2010?

James is the teams franchise player, and while the Cavs can give him more money than any other team, there is still a lot of nay sayers that think that James will bolt for the high life in either New York (imagine James playing for the Knicks) or the Nets (with buddy Jay-Z sitting courtside each night).

LeBron, who is off to a great start this year and leads the league with close to 30 points per game, has to talk about his future night in and night out, and it’s a wonder it hasn’t gotten to him yet.  He’s handled it in stride, and so far this year he’s been gracious enough to talk about it while at the same time keeping his focus on the court night in and night out.

“Every day it seems like [the media] has me going someplace else,” James said on Cleveland.com two weeks ago when the Pistons traded Chauncey Billups, significantly clearing their books for 2010. “I’m very happy here, I have said that over and over.”

Every time that James heads to NY to play the Knicks, the crowds at Madison Square Garden eats him up and applauds him like he plays for the Knicks.  This week he and the team will be in New Jersey and Detroit, and there will be plenty of #23 jerseys in the crowd in both cities, probably more in New Jersey than Detroit.

If your wondering about just how much James can get from the Cavs, according to Brian Windhorst of the Plain Dealer the Cavs can pay him $133 million in 2010.  Other teams at most can offer him $102 million.  Look for the Cavs to ante up for the player that has turned the franchise around and make sure they don’t allow him to get away as the team continues a run at an NBA title.
