So far in this still young NBA campaign it appears the “New Look” Detroit Pistons are a team of extremes. There are going to be nights like Wednesday night when they took Central Division leaders the Cleveland Cavaliers to task beating them soundly 96-89. Last week was another example of the Pistons flexing their muscles as they handed the Los Angeles Lakers their first loss last Friday night 106-95. Then there will be nights like Thursday night when they looked like a weak imitation of themselves as they lost to the Boston Celtics 98-80.  In a re-match of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals, Detroit at times did not look like they belonged on the same court as the “Green Team.” Rajon Rondo led the Boston attack as they took the lead in the opening seconds of the second quarter, and never surrendered it again.

The two opponents played to a draw at the end of the first quarter as the score was tied at 21-21. Tony Allen drove the lane putting the ball up and in with 11:41 left in the second giving Boston the lead at 23-21. Detroit could not buy a basket in the period, resulting in the Celtics up 49-40 at the half.  Boston took control of the game in the third as they ended the third quater with a 77-57 lead. An indication of how much the fourth quarter was nothing more than extended garbage time was Boston reserve Gabe Pruitt being on the floor at the start of the quarter!

Rajon Rondo led all scorers with 18 points, 8 assists, 3 steals, 1 rebound, in the Boston victory.  Kevin Garnett coming back from serving his one game suspension had 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists, Tony Allen added 13 points as he came off the bench, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks, 1 assist. Ray Allen put in 12 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, Eddie House came off the pine and scored 11 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, 1 steal.

Allen Iverson led the Pistons with 16 points, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 rebound.  Rasheed Wallace contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 assist, Richard Hamilton had 12 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound. Jason Maxiell scored 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block. Boston now has an 11-2 record while Detroit is 8-4.
