West With 27 And Paul With Triple-Double As Hornets Buzz Clippers 99-87

New Orleans Hornets forward David West had a game high 27 points, while point guard Chris Paul recorded a triple-double, as the Hornets defeated the Los Angeles Clippers Monday 99-87. The victory at the Staples Center was the third straight win for New Orleans. Los Angeles was playing short handed as possible complications kept Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins out of Los Angeles uniforms. The two were traded from the New York Knicks last Friday.
The two teams played a competitive first half before New Orleans took over the contest in the third quarter. The Hornets led by a razor thin margin of 25-24 at the end of the first quarter. Los Angeles led 44-41 as Baron Davis drove the lane and put the ball up and in with 2:36 left in the second. New Orleans ended the half on an 8-2 run, and walked into locker room at the half up 49-46. The team from the “Big Easy” would never surrender the lead in the second half, and were ahead 76-65 at the end of the third quarter. The Clippers never posed a threat in the final 12 minutes.
David West had a game high 27 points, 5 rebounds, in the New Orleans victory. Chris Paul once again showed why he is the best point guard playing in the Association in 2008, as he recorded a triple double. CP-3 put in 14 points, dished off 17 assists, grabbed 10 boards, 1 block, 1 steal, Peja Stojakovic scored 13 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Tyson Chandler put in 11 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block, 1 assist, Devin Brown came off the bench with 11 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds.
Rookie guard Eric Gordon led the way for Los Angeles with 25 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, 1 rebound, 1 block. Baron Davis had a good game against his former franchise as he scored 19 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, Chris Kaman dropped 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists,1 steal. Al Thornton added 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block. The Hornets now have a 8-5 record, the Clippers are 2-12.
