Third Quarter Spurt Leads To Celtics Come Back Win Over Warriors 119-111

The Boston Celtics Wednesday night went from being 13 points down at the start of the third quarter to being 3 points ahead at the end of the period. The 16 point swing was the key to their come back victory at the “New Garden” over the Golden State Warriors 119-111. Ray Allen led four Boston players in double figures, while the Warriors would rely on three players for 80/111 team points.
Both teams went through periods when they could not miss a shot. They also both went through periods when they could not make a shot. Fortunately for “Green Team” fans in attendance, their drought was followed by a surge. The Celtics led 35-28 at the end of the first quarter. In the second Boston went cold while the Warriors heated up resulting in Golden State leading at halftime 67-54. The Celts kept chipping away at the lead through the third, finally taking the lead at 82-81, as Paul Pierce hit a shot five feet from the basket with 1:39 left in the quarter. Boston held onto the lead going into the fourth leading 86-83. Golden State led 102-100 when Corey Maggette split a pair at the line with 7:05 left in the game, when the Celtics would go on an 8-0 run putting them ahead to stay for the rest of the night.
Ray Allen scored 25 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, in the Boston victory. Rajon Rondo added 22 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, Kevin Garnett recorded a double-double, 21 points, 13 boards, 4 blocks, 3 assists. Paul Pierce would also have 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal.
Corey Maggette was the game’s leading scorer with 32 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Stephen Jackson dropped 30 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block, Jamal Crawford contributed 18 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds. C.J. Watson had 10 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound. Boston after the victory improved to 14-2, Golden State is 5-10.
