The holiday may have been Thursday but Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy celebrated Friday with a double-double leading his team to 101-86 dismantling of the New Orleans Hornets. Portland came out with guns blazing in the first quarter, and a strong second half cemented the victory.

The Trail Blazers would lead at the end of the first quarter 31-26. New Orleans was able to cut the deficit to just 1 point a couple of time during the second quarter, but Portland would then increase the margin. The Blazers were ahead 50-48 as the game reached the half. Rasual Butler started off the third quarter sinking a trey to put the Hornets on top 51-50 with 11:03 in the third. The lead would volley back and forth for most of the period but Portland would break a tie scoring the last 8 points of the quarter and led 77-69 heading into the last 12 minutes of play. The Blazers put the game away starting out quarter on an 8-2 run, leading 85-71 with 9:04 remaining. The Hornets never recovered.

Brandon Roy recorded a double-double, a game high 25 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds,1 block, in the Portland victory. LaMarcus Aldridge added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, Steve Blake had 14 points, 3 assists, 2 steals. Nicholas Batum scored 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists, 1 steal, Rudy Fernandez came off the bench for 10 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds.

The Hornets looked like they were feeling the effects of playing in back to back games, after beating the Denver Nuggets Thursday night. Peja Stojakovic, led the team with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist. Chris Paul actually looked mortal as he scored 16 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, David West added 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. James Posey had 10 points, 1 steal, 1 block. Portland after the win has an 11-6 record, New Orleans has a 9-6 mark.
