Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NBA Game Recap
The Sacramento Kings, in their visit to Energy Solutions Arena to take on the Utah Jazz Friday night, were looking to play a competitive game and also snap a 4-game losing streak; and for three quarters, they managed to keep up with the Jazz. But there was a slight problem – Utah exploded for a huge 44-point third quarter, which enabled Utah to embarrass Sacramento 120-94.
Both teams in the first half played a game of attrition as they went into their respective locker rooms tied at 50; things got truly out of hand for the Kings as the Jazz opened the third quarter with a 13-0 run, with Sacramento finally scoring at the 7:50 mark of the period on a Beno Udrih basket. But Utah continued the rout as they padded their lead to 82-62 with 2:43 left in the quarter. The Jazz, from that point, coasted to the easy win.
Utah had 8 (that’s right, eight) players in double-digits, led by Mehmet Okur with 20 points (including 3 treys)with 12 rebounds, an assist, 3 steals and a blocked shot while C.J. Miles and Ronnie Brewer added 18 points each – with Miles grabbing 3 rebounds with 2 steals; Deron Williams pitched in, scoring 13 with 2 rebounds, 15 assists and a steal while Paul Millsap notched a double-double, pouring in 11 with 11 rebounds and 2 assists.
Sacramento was led by John Salmons with 20 points, a rebound, an assist and a steal while Spencer Hawes from off the bench added 18 with 6 rebounds and 2 assists; Jason Thompson poured in 16 with 5 rebounds. Utah (11-6) remains at home to host the New Jersey Nets on Saturday night while Sacramento (5-13) returns home for a 4-game homestand, hosting the Dallas Mavericks – also on Saturday.
