Heat Rallies In OT, Edge Warriors 130-129

An interesting pair of stats that would coincide with Monday night’s matchup between the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors: Miami’s Dwyane Wade leads the NBA in scoring (28.2 PPG) while Golden State allows the most points per game (110.3 PPG); based on those stats alone, one would presume that there would be plenty of offensive fireworks.  Neither team would disappoint in those fronts; Wade got his points, but it took a free throw by Heat forward Michael Beasley in overtime which sent Miami to a wild 130-129 win over Golden State at Oracle Arena.

The first half was scoring galore and it would have reminded some of the old-school NBA fans of the ABA days when defense was an afterthought; Golden State went into halftime leading 64-60.  The third quarter mirrored the first half in that both teams scored at least 30 points each (the Heat outscored the Warriors 31-30) and Miami slowly chipped away at the Warriors lead; the Heat would go into the fourth quarter behind only by three, 94-91.

Fast-forwarding to bear the end of regulation, Heat forward Udonis Haslem scored on an offensive rebound, sending both teams into overtime; with Golden State ahead 125-123 with 28.8 seconds left in OT, Ronny Turiaf swatted a shot by Wade.  However, Wade would convert a three-point play with 15.1 seconds remaining to cut their deficit to 127-126 before Golden State’s Jamal Crawford hit a pair of free throws at the other end; Miami’s Chris Quinn hit a tying three-pointer with 7.1 second left to go then Beasley stole a pass then converted a free throw which sealed the win for Miami.

Miami’s high scorer was Wade with 37 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists and 3 blocked shots while Shawn Marion and Haslem added 21 each – with Marion grabbing 15 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists along with 3 steals and a blocked shot while Haslem grabbed 13 boards, dished out 2 assists and blocked 2 shots.  Michael Beasley came off the bench, scoring 19 with 6 rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot.

Golden State was led by Crawford with a season-high 40 points (including 4 three-pointers), a rebound and 7 assists while Corey Maggette added 29 with 5 rebounds and a steal; Andris Biedrins pitched in, scoring 17 with 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot while Brandan Wright added 15 with 4 rebounds, a steal and 2 blocked shots.  Miami (9-9) plays again on Wednesday when they travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz while Golden State (5-13) gets some much-needed rest when they travel to Houston to face the Houston Rockets on Friday.
