Who needs LeBron James? The Cleveland Cavaliers, continued their winning ways on Friday night vs the Indiana Pacers, beating their Central Division foes 97-73. James, who came into the contest averaging 27.4 points, scored just 11 points, but it didn’t matter to the success of the team. Anderson Vareajo celebrated his “Wig Night” at Quicken Loans Arena with 17 points, one short of his career high. Vareajo added a big second quarter in which he scored 13 points. The Cavs move to a franchise best 16-3, while the Pacers fall to 7-12.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 17 for Cleveland, along with 17 for Mo Williams. Delonte West and Daniel Gibson each had 14, as six Cavs ended the night in double digits. Indiana was led by Troy Murphy, who had 15. Stephen Graham had 11 for the Pacers, while two others added eight points.
Indiana kept it competitive for a quarter and a half, trailing just 21-20 at the end of one, and leading 29-28 at the eight minute mark of the second quarter. It would be the Pacers only lead of the night. From there, the Cavs blew it open, as they went on a 24-9 run to end the quarter well ahead 52-38 at the half. Daniel Gibson had 10 at the half for the Cavs, Mo Williams added eight. Graham led the Pacers with nine in the first half.
Cleveland continued to lead in the third quarter, as they outscored the Pacers 18-16 to go up 70-54 at the end of the quarter. Williams hit for seven for the Cavs, while Jarrett Jack hit for five for the Pacers. The fourth quarter got a little chippy, as Cleveland continued to roll when at the 4:26 mark Danny Granger gave a hard foul on James when he was going for a dunk. Ilgauskas came to his aid, and both James and Ilgauskas were hit with double technicals, while Granger was hit with a foul.
Cleveland cruised the rest of the way, clearing the bench and going on for the 24-point victory. Cleveland is also now 11-0 at home, also a franchise record.
