Spurs Shoot Lights Out, Destroy Warriors 123-88
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NBA Game Recap
It actually wasn’t that long ago when the Golden State Warriors were a team of promise, with a roster that included Baron Davis, Monta Ellis, Al Harrington and some decent role players that complemented their key starters. Then the wheels started to fall off – first Davis departs to the Los Angeles Clippers, Ellis then injures himself on a moped, earning a suspension while Harrington earns himself a trade to the New York Knicks. What the Warriors got in return from all of this was Corey Maggette from the Clippers and Jamal Crawford from the Knicks. In Saturday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, the obvious lack of team chemistry and cohesion showed as the Spurs shot 55.3% from the floor; the end result being San Antonio destroying Golden State 123-88 at AT&T Center.
The first quarter set the tone for Golden State as they shot an anemic 6-of-22 from the floor and were punked in the paint 18-2 by San Antonio. They outscored the Warriors 35-21 in the first quarter then continued their torrid shooting as they went into halftime holding a 65-49 cushion. It didn’t get any better for Golden State as San Antonio poured it on in the third period as they outscored the Warriors 39-18, upping their sizable advantage to 104-67; the Spurs at one time during the final period had a lead of 41 points.
San Antonio had seven (that’s right, 7) players in double-digits, led by Tim Duncan with 20 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal while Michael Finley and Tony Parker added 17 – with Finley making 3 three-pointers, grabbing 3 rebounds, dishing out an assist along with a steal while Parker grabbed 2 rebounds and dished out 8 assists. Golden State was led by Brandan Wright from off the bench with 13 points and 5 rebounds. San Antonio (11-8) does not play again until Tuesday when they make the short trip to Dallas to face the Mavericks while Golden State (5-15) travels to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder on Monday night.
