The Washington Wizards have started out the 2008-2009 NBA campaign on a disasterous roll. The team after starting the season 1-10, they fired head coach Eddie Jordan, and replaced him with former director of player personnel Ed Tapscott. After going 3-5 in their next 8 contests, the Associated Press reported Wednesday they decided to shake up the club with a trade. The Wizards traded veteran guard Antonio Daniels in a three team deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, and the New Orleans Hornets. Washington will receive Hornets guard Mike James, and Grizzlies guard Javaris Crittennton, New Orleans will receive Daniels and a conditional NBA Draft second round pick from the Grizzlies, while Memphis will receive a future first round pick.

The Wizards have collapsed as guard Gilbert Arenas is still recovering from problems that have plagued him with his left knee. Washington was originally hoping to have Arenas back at the beginning of the new year, but that no longer seems realistic.

James did not seem to be a good fit this season for the Hornets as his playing time has decreased. The Grizzlies will actually be getting back their own first round pick from the Wizards in the transaction, as they had owed Washington a conditional pick when they acquired former Grizzlies guard Juan Carlos Navarro in 2007. Navarro is back in Spain playing for FC Barcelona this season. Crittenton came to Memphis last season in the deal that sent Pau Gasol to the L.A. Lakers. Washington released guard Dee Brown to have roster space for both players.
