Magic Win Third Straight, Slam Spurs 90-78
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NBA Game Recap
The Orlando Magic got an early Christmas present in the return of Dwight Howard to their lineup as they hosted the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night; Howard had an OK night, but for the second straight game, Jameer Nelson made the difference as he scored 24 points, leading Orlando to a convincing 90-78 win over San Antonio at Amway Arena.
Neither team shot especially well in the first half as the Spurs shot only 28% from the floor; as a result, the Magic took a 44-29 lead into their locker room. Orlando would then go on a 10-0 blitz early in the third quarter to take a 54-31 lead; San Antonio did get their deficit down to 71-65 on some free throws by Tony Parker midway through the fourth quarter, but the Magic would coast the rest of the way, earning their 20th win of the season.
Orlando’s high scorer was Jameer Nelson with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists while Rashard Lewis added 15 with 5 rebounds, a steal and 2 blocked shots; Howard pitched in, scoring 14 with 13 rebounds, a steal and 2 blocked shots. Tim Duncan led San Antonio with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Orlando (20-6) plays again on Saturday when they host the Los Angeles Lakers while San Antonio (15-10) returns home to host the Toronto Raptors – also on Saturday night.
