B-Roy Scores 52 Points As Blazers Out Last Suns in Shoot Out 124-119

NBA fans may one day look back at Thursday night’s game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns, as the night that Brandon Roy showed that he would become a special player in the Association. Roy last season almost by himself willed the Blazers to the Playoffs before the team fell short going down the stretch. Thursday though taking his game to a whole new level. B-Roy scored a career high 52 points including the shot that broke the Suns backs a trey with 1:00 left in the contest breaking a tie, and leading the Blazers to a 124-119 victory.
Both teams eclipsed the 50% mark from the floor for the game as Phoenix shot 56.9% (41-72) from the field, 66.7% (12-18) from outside the arc. Portland shot 51.7% (45-87) from the floor for the night. Roy had set his previous career high last Friday as he dropped 38 points on the Los Angeles Clippers.
Both teams came out scoring in the first with the Blazers holding a slim 31-28 lead at the end of the quarter. Phoenix would take the lead as Leandro Barbosa sank a shot about 8 feet from the hoop, was fouled on the play, and hit his shot at the line, putting his team on top 37-35 with 8:49 left in the second. The Suns would hold the advantage for the rest of the period, and reached the half leading 66-59.
Steve Nash hit a 24 foot trey with 6:09 left in the third to put the Suns ahead 84-72. Portland then went on a 16-3 run, taking the lead at 88-87, when Steve Blake drained a 22 foot trey with 2:55 to play in the quarter. The Blazers kept the lead for the rest of the quarter, heading into the final 12 minutes of play on top 98-92. Phoenix made their surge in the opening minutes of the fourth taking the lead with 7:05 to play when Matt Barnes drove the lane and put the ball up and in as his team went ahead 108-106. The lead volleyed back and forth changing hands 5 times in the quarter, until with 1:00 left in the game Roy drilled a 25 foot trey giving Portland the lead at 122-119.
B-Roy shot 14-27 from the floor, 19-21 from the charity stripe for 52 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 1 block, in the Blazers victory. Steve Blake recorded a double-double, 22 points, 10 assists, 4 steals, and 4 rebounds, LaMarcus Aldridge added 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Travis Outlaw came off the bench and had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 23 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal. Matt Barnes came up big off the bench with 22 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, while Shaquille O’Neal scored 19 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. Jason Richardson put up 17 points, and 5 rebounds, Steve Nash recorded a double-double, 15 points, 11 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal. Leandro Barbosa added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Portland with the win has a record of 17-10, Phoenix is 15-11.
