Ilgauskas May Miss Month With Ankle Injury

The center position just got a bit thinner for the Cleveland Cavaliers as according to the Associated Press, Zydrunas Ilgauskas may miss up to a month of playing time after suffering a small fracture when he twisted his ankle last month; specifically, Ilgauskas sprained his ankle during a game December 10 against the Philadelphia 76ers when he tried to block a Donyell Marshall shot, but landed on Marshall’s foot.  Tests taken at that time revealed only a sprain and he returned to the court after three games.

But as of late, Ilgauskas has experienced pain and stiffness and an MRI taken on Friday showed that he chipped a talus bone in his ankle.  So with Ilgauskas’ absence, the Cavaliers more than likely will start Anderson Varejao at center; Ilgauskas, prior to his most recent injury, was averaging 13.8 PPG – third on the club.
