Spurs Cool Down Heat Win 91-84
Posted by Tyler Hutson under NBA Game Recap

Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs out muscled the stingy Miami defense to collect their third win of the New Year, defeating the Heat 91-84. Tim Duncan led a great team effort with 19 points and 9 rebounds to pace the Spurs.
A very scrappy game from start to finish, the Spurs only trailed once in the ball game in the first quarter. Miami was attempting a late game push, when they looked to their leader Dwayne Wade. With an apparent mismatch, Dwayne Wade found himself being defended by Tony Parker. Wade took Parker to the rim and appeared to be extending into an acrobatic layup when Manu Ginobili came from the help side to make a rare block. The Spurs pushed the ball to the other end and capped the game with a Roger Mason jump shot to coast to the victory.
“He’s an athletic guy and it was a great block,” Wade told the Associated Press after the game. Wade finished the game with 24 points and 12 assists.
The Spurs supporting cast had a very solid performance helping to take the load off guys like Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. Matt Bonner and Roger Mason each helped with the scoring load scoring 11 points a piece. George Hill contributed 15 points from 4-of-4 shooting and Manu added 10 points of his own as well.
Duncan told the Associated Press: “We managed to find a way tonight. Manu makes that block and we go down to the other end and turn a one-point game into a five-point game. That’s the way it went.”
Shawn Marion summed up the game afterwards saying this “That’s what they do.”-Associated Press. Marion finished the game with 15 points and 7 rebounds in the losing effort.
Rookie Michael Beasley had a great performance off the bench for the Heat scoring 15 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.
The Spurs find themselves atop the Southwest Division at the present time with a record of 23-11. San Antonio resumes action on Thursday when they host the Los Angeles Clippers.
Miami continuing to stay competitive in a much improved Southeast Division currently trail the Magic and Hawks in third place with and overall record of 18-15. Miami will take on the red hot Nuggets on Wednesday traveling to the Mile High City.
