In a battle of two Eastern Conference heavyweights that both teams have had circled on their calenders for quite some time, the Cavaliers continued to dominate on their home court, knocking out the the Boston Celtics 98-83. The win improves the Cavaliers to 29-6, the best mark in the NBA. They also are now 19-0 at home, and haven’t lost at home since the first round of the playoffs last season versus Washington.

Cleveland got off to a blistering start in front of the home crowd, as despite a Northeast Ohio snowstorm that stopped a number of fans from getting to the arena on time, the Cavs outscored Boston 33-23 in the first quarter. They did it shooting 72 percent in the quarter while Boston shot just 52 percent. All eight Cavaliers who played in that first quarter scored, with James leading the team with 9 points.

The game turned defensive in the second quarter, as both teams played a lot tighter, as the teams combined for just 33 points, 17 for Boston and 16 for Cleveland to make it 49-40 Cavs at the half.

Boston continues to struggle, as they are now 29-9, but have lost four in a row and 7 of their last nine games. The Cavs were led by LeBron James, who scored a game-high 38 points, 13 of which came in the third quarter when the Cavs built a 72-60 lead at the end of the peroid. Anderson Varejao had 14 points and 9 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

The Celtics were led by Kevin Garnett, who had 18 points. Kendrick Perkins had 13, and Paul Pierce had 11. Boston outrebounded the Cavs 42-30, but with James leading the way were never able to gain the lead and the closest they got it in the fourth quarter was an 8-point deficit at 74-66. Cleveland took over from there, as James made a driving layup and then jump shot to put the lead out to 12 at 78-66 with 7:44 remaning. From there the Cavs dominated, outscoring the Celtics 20-17 to end the game.
