Mehmet Okur scored a game high 22 points on Saturday night, as the Utah Jazz shot 53.5% (38-71) from the floor for the game, while holding the visiting Detroit Pistons to an anemic 35.9% (28-78) and defeated the Pistons handily 99-82. The Jazz have seemingly had the Piston’s number for quite a while as this was their eighth straight win over the team from Motown. Detroit has not won a contest against Utah since March of 2005.

The Jazz have played surprisingly well this season considering they started the campaign without Team USA point guard Deron Williams, and have been without Team USA power forward Carlos Boozer since November 19. Boozer will be out about another month after undergoing surgery Friday to remove some cartilage that was bothering his left knee. Okur, Paul Millsap, and Ronnie Brewer have all had to take on more of the load without the Jazz star being available. However being in the West if the season ended Saturday they would trail the Phoenix Suns for the final playoff spot in the Conference.

Utah took this game over in the first quarter, and Detroit really was never much of a challenge the rest of the game. Jazz would come out strong in the first 12 minutes of play, and grabbed a 32-21 lead. Detroit was not much more competitive in the second and Utah held a 57-47 advantage at the half. The Jazz increased their lead to 79-64 at the end of the third. The fourth was just extended garbage time.

Mehmet Okur dropped 22 points, and had 6 rebounds, while Ronnie Brewer added 16 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds. Andrei Kirilenko came off the bench and scored 11 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals, veteran Matt Harpring also chipped in 11 points, and 2 rebounds.

Rodney Stuckey led the way for Detroit as the point guard scored 19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Allen Iverson added 11 points, and 5 assists, while Jason Maxiell came off the bench and had 11 points, and 4 rebounds. Utah is now 22-15, Detroit is 22-13.
