The Cavaliers had owned the Chicago Bulls this season to date, winning their first three games. Thursday night was quite the different story, as the Bulls put together one of, if not their best outing on the season, topping the Cavs 102-93 in overtime in Chicago. Luol Deng scored 22 points and Derrick Rose finished with 16 to lead the Bulls, who scored 12 of the first 13 points in OT to put the game away.
Rose hit a key three pointer 52 seconds into OT that started a Bulls run that eventually led them to victory. Deng also was clutch from three-point country, hitting two big ones from the left corner that sealed the Cavs fate as they went up 99-88 in the extra frame.
LeBron James had 28 points for the Cavs, and Mo Williams added 26, including hitting 5 of 10 3-pointers. It was a tough night for LeBron, as he was just 8-for-28 from the field and hit just 1 of six three pointers. James also was careless with the ball, as he had a season-high eight turnovers. Maybe even bigger than the loss of the game though for the Cavs was the loss of guard Delonte West, who broke his right wrist when he collided with Rose in the first quarter.
West was off to a good start with 11 points, but had to leave with what the team is calling a non-displaced fracture. To make matters worse, he also had a cut above his left eye that required two stitches. The team started the game without Ben Wallace, who was out for the second straight game with the flu, and of course Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who continues to try and make it back from his ankle injury.
The Cavs did have a chance to get out of the Windy City with a win, as they were up 87-83 with 2:10 left, but Rose hit a lay-in, then with 17 seconds left tied the game with a pair of free throws to make it 87 all. From there, it was all downhill for a Cavs team that falls to 30-7 on the season. The Bulls improve to 17-22, but are still light years away from the Cavs in the standings at 14.5 back.
Cleveland will have a quick turnaround, as they come home for a matchup with the 23-12 New Orleans Hornets Friday night at 8pm. New Orleans already has a win agains the Cavs earlier this year at home.
