Monday night the Boston Celtics had one of their most one-sided victories of the campaign as they throttled the Phoenix Suns at the “New Garden” 104-87. The final score in no way reflects how the “Green Team” eclipsed the Suns, this is a far better indicator; Boston led Phoenix 64-34 at the half. Fans of the Celtics celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by watching a game that basically became extended garbage time after the opening minutes of the second quarter. Rajon Rondo led all players with 23 points to give Boston their fifth straight win after their stumble earlier this month.

The Celtics came out on fire in the first, while Phoenix needed a road map to find the basket, which resulted in Boston on top at the end of the quarter 30-15. Things just collapsed for the Suns in the second, and would walk into the locker room at the half, probably not wanting to go back on the floor for the third quarter as the Celtics led 64-34. Phoenix finally found their offense in the second half as it was far too little, and far too late. At the end of three quarters they trailed Boston 89-58. At no time in the fourth were the Suns even close to being a threat.

Rajon Rondo led all players with 23 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Ray Allen added 20 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Kevin Garnett scored 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block, Paul Pierce had 12 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, in the Boston victory.

Shaquille O’Neal recorded a double-double, 16 points, 11 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks, Louis Amundson, the former UNLV player who seems to have found a home with the Suns this season, came off the bench with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Steve Nash scored 12 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds, while Alando Tucker made the most of some rare playing time as he had 11 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, and 1 steal. Grant Hill added 10 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, and 1 block. Boston improves to 34-9, while Phoenix is now 23-16.
