The Indiana Pacers, fresh off a heartbreaking 2-point loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Monday, were looking to avenge that loss as they faced the San Antonio Spurs at AT&T Center on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for them, they had to face Tim Duncan. Duncan had his way with the Pacers frontcourt as he scored 27 points, leading San Antonio to an easy 99-81 win over Indiana.
Neither team shot very well during the contest – San Antonio shot 43.5% while Indiana shot a miserable 37% – yet it was defense that made the win for the Spurs possible. To illustrate how lopsided this game became, the spurs went into halftime leading 53-40; their lead would stretch to 24 in the third quarter and was as high as 29 points before both teams emptied their benches early in the fourth quarter.
Duncan led all San Antonio scorers with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and a blocked shot while Ginobili added 26 (including 4 three-pointers) with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot; Tony Parker chipped in 13 with 7 assists and 2 steals.
Indiana was led by Danny Granger with 17 points, a rebound and an assist while Mike Dunleavy added 15 with 3 rebounds and an assist. San Antonio (28-13) plays again on Friday when they host the New Jersey Nets while Indiana (15-27) returns home to host the Houston Rockets – also on Friday.
