Save for their win against the Cleveland Cavaliers last Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers’ last opponent – the Los Angeles Clippers – gave them a respite from some quality competition. Their opponent in Thursday’s game, the Washington Wizards, would prove to be no different as seven Lakers scored in double-figures as they easily disposed of Washington 117-97 at Staples Center.
The game basically was a wire-to-wire win for Los Angeles as they went on a 15-2 run over the last 3 1/2 minutes of the second quarter, as they took a 72-47 lead at halftime; the 72 points was a team high for one half as was their 69.2% shooting from the floor. The Lakers coasted from there as no one played more than 28 minutes.
Los Angeles’ high scorer was Andrew Bynum with 23 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and a blocked shot while Pau Gasol added 18 with 6 rebounds and 2 assists; Lamar Odom came off the bench to score 16 with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a blocked shot.
Washington was led by Antawn Jamison with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while JaVale McGee added 18 with 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots. Los Angeles (34-8) plays again on Sunday when they host the San Antonio Spurs while Washington (9-33) flies north to face the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.
