Lakers Lock Down Spurs 99-85 For Fourth Straight Win
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main

Maybe it had something to do with the 12:30 pm PST start of the game, but the San Antonio Spurs Sunday did not even belong in the same zip code as the Los Angeles Lakers. The Spurs held tough in the first, but they appeared dazed and confused in the second and third quarters, and the Lakers handily defeated their visitors from the “Lone Star State” 99-85. Kobe Bryant scored a game high 22 points, Andrew Bynum recorded a double-double, and Jordan Farmar celebrated his return from left knee surgery by scoring in double digits. The win was the fourth straight for the Lakers, who have the best record in the Association.
San Antonio came out of the gates fine in the first as they held a razor thin 23-22 lead at the end of the quarter. That however would be the high point of the contest for the Spurs, as the Lakers would gain the advantage by the half as they were on top 51-45. Things only kept getting more unpleasant for San Antonio in the third as Los Angeles would lead 79-65 at the end of the period. The Spurs were at no time a credible threat to challenge in the final quarter.
Kobe Bryant led all players with 22 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal, in the Los Angeles victory. Trevor Ariza came off the bench and put up 17 points, and 2 rebounds, while Pau Gasol added 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 block. Andrew Bynum recorded a double-double, 15 points, 11 boards, 4 blocks, 1 assist, and 1 steal, while Jordan Farmar showed no rust as he had 14 points, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
Tony Parker scored 19 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Tim Duncan was the only other Spurs player in double figures as he added 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist. Los Angeles now has a record of 35-8, San Antonio is 29-14.
