After having a game Thursday night against the Houston Rockets that he will always regret, Cleveland Cavaliers super-star, and most likely Association MVP of the 2008-2009 campaign LeBron James had a night more typical of his glowing career. LBJ recorded a double-double with a game high 30 points, as he led his club past an old demon the San Antonio Spurs 97-86 Friday. Cleveland is now 1-0 after finding out they have lost center Ben Wallace for the balance of the season due to a broken fibula in his right leg. Delonte West added 17 points, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas also registered a double-double for the contest.

The Cavaliers took the dominant role in the first period and never looked back the rest of the game. Cleveland pulled out to a 27-13 lead at the end of the first. The Spurs narrowed the ggap, in the second but Cavaliers still had the upper hand at the half 45-38. If the Spurs had delusions of getting back in the game they died in the third as Cleveland ended the quarter leading 77-66. The fourth was extended garbage time.

LeBron James recorded a double-double, 30 points, 14 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the Cleveland victory. Delonte West had his second strong game since returning from the injured list 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 10 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 1 steal. Daniel Gibson came off the bench with 10 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal.

It must have been  ” Lucky eleven night at the AT&T Center“  as 4 Spurs players had the double lines as a total for the game. Tony Parker, Michael Finley, Malik Hairstson , and Pops Mensah-Bonsu, each scored 11 points in the contest. The Spurs severely handicapped with both Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili not able to give it a go, also got 10 points, from Roger Mason along with 1 assist. Cleveland back on track now has a 45-12 mark this season San Antonio drops to 39-18.

Charlotte Bobcats guard Raymond Felton (left), Golden State swingman Corey Maggette (right)

Typically at Oracle Arena, the Golden State Warriors do very well against most opponents – at least they have since the first of the year.  Enter the Charlotte Bobcats; at first glance, you think, “Same old, same old”.  But then came the Jason Richardson trade which sent them Raja Bell and Boris Diaw.  But it wasn’t Diaw or Bell who was the Bobcats’ savior in their game against the Warriors on Friday night.  Oddly enough, it was Raymond Felton who led Charlotte to the come-from-behind 112-109 win over Golden State.

Both teams were hot in the first half as the Bobcats outscored the Warriors 25-24 and 36-31 to take a 61-55 first half lead going into halftime; Golden state would open the third quarter with a 16-5 run to take the lead.  Andris Biedrins, while scoring 9 points during that run, later would dunk to give Golden State a 73-68 lead.  However, Charlotte would recover and score 10 straight points to end the period and take a slim 89-86 lead going into the final period.

Golden State immediately went on a 10-2 spurt to regain the lead at 96-91; they would maintain their lead until 2.9 seconds remaining in the game when the Bobcats’ Boris Diaw drained a 3-pointer, giving Charlotte a 110-109 lead.  After the Warriors’ Stephen Jackson threw away an inbounds pass, Felton was fouled and he proceeded to make a pair of free throws  with 1.6 seconds left to seal the win.

Charlotte’s high scorer was Felton with 26 points (including 3 three-pointers), 3 rebounds, 9 assists, 4 steals and a block, but committed 6 turnovers while Diaw added 22 (including 3 treys) with 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks; Emeka Okafor scored 15 with 11 rebounds.

Golden State was led by Jackson with 33 points (including 4 three-pointers), 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals, but turned the ball over 5 times while Corey Maggette, from off the bench, added 20 with 3 rebounds and 2 assists; Biedrins scored 18 with 13 rebounds and 2 assists.  Charlotte (24-35) plays again on Saturday when they travel south to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers while Golden State (20-38) remains home to host the Utah Jazz on Sunday night.

Just as the Patriots were a strong enough team to make Moss toe the line, the Celtics will do the same with Stephon. He will become an asset not a liability, because the team will force him to become one. Marbury could be a divisive force on almost any other team in the Association. On the Celtics, Marbury will be that missing link that might help them attain ring number 18.

Yes I Want Starbury On The Green Team; Here’s Why!

After one contest scoreboard reads: Your Faithful Scribe 1 Non-Believers 0. Now, to be perfectly honest the newest member of the reigning NBA Champs was not really a factor in the Boston Celtics slipping past the Indiana Pacers Friday night 104-99.  However, his sheer presence on the roster did not lead to apocalypse the way many “so called experts” predicted either. Boston star Ray Allen led the attack with a game high 30 points, as the club shot 52.7% (39-74) from the for for the night and 52.6% (10-19) fom outside the arc. Marbury came off the bench, scoring 8 points in 13 minutes of playing time.

Boston had a strong opening quarter and held a 26-18 lead at the end of the period. Indiana picked up their scoring pace in the second, holding a razor thin 49-48 advantage at the half. The Celtics grabbed  the momentum and the lead in the third, as they were on top 77-75 at the end of the quarter. Pacers point T.J. Ford hit a pair at the line with 35 seconds to play cutting the Celtics lead to 103-99. Indiana would not score again Friday night.

Ray Allen led all players with 30 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, “Big Baby” Glen Davis dropped 18 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block. Paul Pierce scored 16 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 block, while Leon Powe came off  the bench with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block.

T.J. Ford was high scorer for the Pacers with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, while Troy Murphy had a double-double, 20 points, 13 boards, 3 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal. Brandon Rush came off the pine with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, while Jarret Jack added 14 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal. Boston improves to 47-13, Indiana has a record of 25-36.

Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Martin

Depending on your point of view and whether you are a Sacramento Kings fan or simply follow the team, their game Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers had no meaning, except for the win-loss column.  It can be said that the Kings played excellent defense or that the Clippers couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.  No matter the insight, the Kings led from nearly the beginning to the end as they soundly defeated the Clippers 98-86 at Arco Arena.

After spotting Los Angeles a brief lead, Sacramento scored the final 10 points of the first quarter as they went into the second quarter ahead 27-18; Kevin Martin 13 points and Andres Nocioni added 9 in the first half as the Kings took a 52-39 lead to their locker room at halftime.  Sacramento built up their lead up to 24 in the third quarter and coasted the rest of the way for the victory.

Sacramento was led by Martin with 20 points (including 4 three-pointers), 4 rebounds and 5 assists while Bobby Jackson added 18 (including 3 treys)with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block; Nocioni poured in 17 with 2 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block while Francisco Garcia chipped in 15 with 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and a block.

Baron Davis and Steve Novak shared high scoring honors for Los Angeles with 13 points each – with Davis dishing out 4 assists along with 4 steals, but committing 5 turnovers while Novak grabbed 4 boards along with a steal.  Sacramento (13-47) plays again on Saturday when they fly to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz while Los Angeles (15-44) returns home to host the Charlotte Bobcats – also on Saturday night.

The  “Associated Press” reported that the worst kept secret in the NBA was made official on Friday as veteran point guard Stephon Marbury signed with the Boston Celtics. The perennial bad boy of the Association had been rumored almost the entire season to become a member of the Green Team after parting company with the New York Knickerbockers. New York arranged a buyout with ”Starbury” granting him his freedom. The veteran was expected to play with the defending NBA Champions Friday night against the Indiana Pacers.
