Magic Could Lose Nelson For Season with Torn Labrum
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Analysis, NBA Injuries, NBA News

The “Associated Press” has reported that Orlando Magic All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson may be out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder Monday night. The injury occurred in the third quarter of the contest that the Magic lost to the Dallas Mavericks 105-95. Nelson was fouled by Dallas center Erick Dampier, fell to the ground, and when he got up he was holding his right shoulder in obvious pain. Nelson was removed from the contest.
An MRI taken Tuesday confirmed the torn labrum, which leaves the Southeast Division leading Magic with a major gap in their lineup. The only other true point guard they have on the team, is journeyman Anthony Johnson a pretty good bench player, but bench player being the operative words. Orlando does have J.J. Redick and Courtney Lee on their roster, but neither has a point guard mentality.
The Magic have been locked in a three team race for the Eastern Conference crown with the reigning NBA Champions the Boston Celtics, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Orlando because they have the best pure center in the Association in Dwight Howard can stand toe to toe with any other front court in the NBA. But Nelson had been the “x-factor” this year for Orlando, and replacing what he has given this club this season will be a monumental task for Magic General Manager Otis Smith.
