Words escape me when describing the Monday night game between the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns at US Airways Center. The Suns dominated the Kings in every important category, especially the most important stat – the final score. Annihilation would be too kind a word yet very appropriate as Phoenix decimated Sacramento 129-81.
Phoenix poured it on early as they made their first 6 shots in the first 2:35 of the first quarter then would manufacture a 17-4 run over a 3:43 span to open a 34-15 lead; the Suns would go into the second quarter with a 40-19 lead. The lead would enlarge to 69-36 and would be 73-43 at halftime. The Suns, despite their sizable lead, would not let up as they increased their lead to 105-55 after three quarters; reserves from both clubs would play the bulk of the fourth quarter.
Amare Stoudemire led all Phoenix scorers with 25 points, 8 rebounds and a steal while Jason Richardson added 24 (including 3 three-pointers) with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Sacramento was led by John Salmons with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal but committed 5 turnovers while Kevin Martin added 13 with a rebound, an assist and a steal. Phoenix (26-20) plays again on Wednesday when they travel to Oakland to face the Golden State Warriors while Sacramento (11-39) returns home to host the Utah Jazz on Friday.
