The Golden State Warriors, in their game against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, played perhaps the kind of basketball that they have been expected to play all season – considering that all of their top offensive players are healthy. And it was Captain Jack – Stephen Jackson – who led the way as he recorded his first career triple-double in leading Golden State to a convincing 124-112 win over Phoenix at Oracle Arena.
The Warriors started out hot as they exploded for 43 points in the first quarter and would rack up 72 points at halftime – a season high. They would keep their double-digit lead throughout the second half; Golden State would shoot 52.2% as a result.
Golden State’s leading scorer was the aforementioned Jackson as he scored 30 points (including 4 three-pointers), 11 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot while Jamal Crawford added 27 (including 3 treys) with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and a blocked shot; Kelenna Azubuike chipped in 25 (including 4 treys) with 2 rebounds and a blocked shot while Corey Maggette poured in 18 with 7 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Phoenix was led by Jason Richardson with 24 points (including 3 three-pointers), 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals while Leandro Barbosa added 20 with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal; Shaquille O’Neal contributed 17 with 12 rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot while Steve Nash pitched in 16 with 3 rebounds and 9 assists but committed 5 turnovers. Golden State (16-34) plays again on Friday when they have a rematch with Phoenix (26-21) at US Airways Center.
