The most highly sought free agent in the Association last Summer found out Thursday that his season has come to an end. The “Associated Press” reported Thursday that Philadelphia 76ers power forward Elton Brand will have surgery Monday on his right shoulder ending his disappointing first season with the Sixers. Brand’s signing last Summer with Philadelphia, was supposed to change the balance of power in the Eastern Conference this season, putting the Sixers on the same level as Boston, Cleveland, and Orlando.
Things did not go as planned for Philadelphia, as they got off to a lackluster start, causing former head coach Maurice Cheeks to lose his job. Just as things seemed to be starting to come together for the Sixers, Brand injured his shoulder on December 16. He had returned an played just 6 games before being taken out of the Philadelphia, before being removed from the Sixers loss to Boston. An MRI revealed a torn labrum which will need to be corrected surgically.
Brand signed a reported 5 year pact last Summer said to be valued at $80 million, and played just a total of 29 games this season. Last year his last with the Los Angeles Clippers, he was restricted to just 8 games due to an achilles tendon injury.
