D-Ron Ruins C-Webb’s Moment, Jazz Hold Off Kings 111-107

The Sacramento Kings, despite their abysmal win-loss record, had something to celebrate during their game on Friday night.  Specifically, they retired the jersey of Chris Webber at halftime yet that occasion was bittersweet as Deron Williams hit the go-ahead basket with 20 ticks left on the game clock, sending the Utah Jazz away from Arco Arena with a 111-107 win over Sacramento.

The Kings actually played well during the first half; despite being outscored 28-25 in the forst quarter, they came back with a 30-17 second quarter, sending Sacramento to their locker room with a 55-45 lead.  The Jazz came roaring back with a 35-22 third quarter, giving them a 80-77 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Mehmet Okur hit a 3-pointer with 48 seconds left in the game before drawing a charge on Kevin Martin; after Williams split the lane for a layup, Martin tried to do the same, but could not get the call – although upon looking at the replay, it appeared that Okur was set before the shot left Martin’s hands.  But the heartbreaker was the layup by Williams with 20 seconds remaining, sending Sacramento to its 10th loss in 11 games.

Utah’s high scorer was the aforementioned Williams with 34 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal but committed 5 turnovers while Okur added 28 with 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots; Ronnie Brewer chipped in 16 with 6 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot while Matt Harpring put in a solid effort, scoring 14 with 8 rebounds.

Sacramento was led by Martin with 37 points (including 4 three-pointers), 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal but committed 5 turnovers while Bobby Jackson, from off the bench, added 15 with 5 rebounds, an assist and 4 steals.  Utah (29-22) plays again on Sunday when they make the short trip west on I-80 as they face the Golden State Warriors while Sacramento (11-40) flies east to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder – also on Sunday.
