The “Associated Press” reported that the Chicago Bulls  traded veteran guard Larry Hughes to the New York Knickerbockers Thursday for Anthony Roberson, Jerome James, and Tim Thomas. Hughes who was acquired last season in the deal that sent center Ben Wallace to the Cleveland Cavaliers, had more than worn out his welcome in Chicago. Bulls General Manager John Paxson said after the deal went down “Obviously with Larry Hughes’ situation, we had been looking to move him. The deal we made today was, basically, I told him and his agent, Jeff Wechsler, I would do everything in my power to move him.”

New York General Manager Donnie Walsh acknowledged that Chicago and the guard were ready to part company. Walsh told reporters “I think Chicago was very honest with Hughes and made him aware that when (injured guard Kirk) Hinrich came back, he wasn’t going to play. I’m not saying he was happy or unhappy, I think he was looking to go somewhere because he knew he wasn’t going to play once Hinrich got back.”
