The Cavaliers did the best they could to get ready for a long road trip on Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena, and that was be able to give their best players a lot of rest. You can thank a rather lackluster outing from the visiting Memphis Grizzlies for that, as the Cavs dominated from the opening tip on, as they topped Memphis easily 94-79 in a game that never was in doubt.
The win was the fifth straight for the Cavs, as they have rebounded nicely after a Sunday loss to the Lakers a few weeks back. They improve to 44-11 on the season, and now get ready for a hellish road trip that will see them start with a back-to-back in Houston then San Antonio on Thursday and Friday. Then they have a back-to-back with games Sunday and Money in Atlanta and Miami.
Overall the team will be on the road for 8 of their next 10 games, with a game at Boston thrown in, as well as three games thrown in out west vs the Clippers, Suns and Kings. Enjoy your rest now LeBron, your going to need it. Tuesday James played just 29 minutes, and scored 15 points with eight assists. He sat in the fourth quarter as the Cavs led 76-56 at the end of three.
The team had five players in double digits, and were also able to give Delonte West a night off after his comeback Sunday in the win over the Pistons. Daniel Gibson off the bench led the team with 19 points, and Mo Williams had 18. The Cavs bench players dominated the weak Grizzlies, as they went on to score 39 points to just 25 for the Grizzlies bench.
The Cavs started fast and never looked back, as they quickly built a double digit lead in the first quarter, and lead at the end of one 27-16. The route continued in the second quarter, as the Cavs bench kept piling on the lead, as they outscored the Grizzlies 31-20 in the quarter to put the game to rest by halftime, leading 58-36.
Memphis, going through another awful season, were led by Rudy Gay and Hakim Warrick who each had 13 points. Rookie guard O.J. Mayo had seven points in just 30 minutes, 12 points off his usual average of 19.4. It was the seventh straight win for the Cavs over Memphis, who fall to 15-41 on the season.
Another key was points from the free throw line, as the Cavs were 24-for-29 from the free throw line, while Memphis was just 6-for-11. The Cavs also out-rebounded Memphis 42 to 33 in the win, and were 8-for-19 from the three-point line.
The team will now get ready to pack their bags for the big road trip, which will start with a game on National TV on Thursday night vs the Rockets at 8pm on TNT.
