Devin Harris’ Long Bomb Helps Nets Nip Sixers 98-96

There are certain moments in professional sports, when we remember why we devote the amount of time we do, to watch grown men play a children’s game. In the NFL it is that “Hail Mary” desperation pass that lands in your team’s best receiver’s hands that he runs into the end-zone for a last second winning touchdown! In Baseball it’s that walk-off dinger over the fence with the bags juiced to get that come from behind victory. Monday night at the Izod Center a similar situation took place; New Jersey Nets point guard Devin Harris threw up a prayer from half-court as the buzzer sounded that went through the cylinder. After the officials looked at the tape the New Jersey Nets celebrated a 98-96 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Harris would lead all players with a game high 39 points in the dramatic victory!
The first half was feast or famine for both teams offensively. Philadelphia came out in the first quarter on fire, while the Nets looked lost resulting in New Jersey trailing 31-19 at the end of the first quarter. The Nets would pull slightly ahead in the closing moments of the second but Willie Green knocked down a mid-range jumper at the buzzer to make the contest all knotted up at 51-51 at the half.
New Jersey would lead for most of the third quarter however Samuel Dalembert dropped in a shot 6 feet from the hoop to tie the contest at 71-71 with 3:36 to go in the period. The Sixers started to push ahead, but Ryan Anderson knocked down a pair at the line to cut the 76ers advantage to 75-74 at the end of the quarter. The lead volleyed back and forth throughout the final period. Andre Igoudala hit a shot at the line with 1 second to play to put Philadelphia ahead. And then Harris threw up his prayer, and pandemonium broke loose at the Izod Center!
Devin Harris led all players with 39 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block to help seal the New Jersey victory. Keyon Dooling came off the bench with 16 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, Vince Carter added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.
Andre Iguodala led the Sixers attack with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal, while Andre Miller recorded a double-double, 10 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Thaddeus Young had 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal, while Willie Green also put in 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Samuel Dalembert also had a double-double, 13 points, 10 boards, 2 steals, Louis Williams had another good game off of the pine with 10 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebound. New Jersey now has a record of 25-32, the Sixers are now 27-28.
