The San Antonio Spurs, when short-handed, typically have difficulty winning games on a regular basis. Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks was no different as Tim Duncan sat this one out with a sore knee; but like all good teams do, someone else steps in to take up the slack. In the Spurs’ case, it was Tony Parker; he scored 37 points, leading San Antonio to the easy 93-76 victory over Dallas at the AT&T Center.
The Mavericks were in trouble almost from the beginning as Parker pretty much punked them as he scored or had a hand in 26 of San Antonio’s 32 first-quarter points; the Spurs would go into the second quarter up by 13. The Mavericks made it a bit more interesting in the second period as they outscored the Spurs 25-18 as they went into halftime with only a 6-point deficit at 50-44. San Antonio, at the beginning of the third quarter, slowly pulled away as the end result was never in doubt.
San Antonio’s leading scorer was the aforementioned Parker with 37 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists while Michael Finley added 16 (including 4 three-pointers) with 5 rebounds and an assist; Kurt Thomas secured a double-double as he scored 10 with 15 rebounds.
Dallas was led by Josh Howard with 19 points, 6 rebounds and an assist while Jose Juan Barea added 16 with a rebound and 3 assists; Dirk Nowitzki and James Singleton each had a double-double – with Nowitzki grabbing 10 rebounds while Singleton grabbed 14 boards. San Antonio (38-17) plays again on Wednesday when they host the Portland Trail Blazers while Dallas (33-23) returns home to host the Milwaukee Bucks – also on Wednesday night.
