Utah Jazz guard Ronnie Brewer

The Utah Jazz have the luxury of when their starting lineup is slumping, they have a bench that in my opinion is one of the better benches in the NBA.  Nonetheless, in their game against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, their bench didn’t do so much; but then again it didn’t have to as Ronnie Brewer and Mehmet Okur combined for 52 points, leading Utah to the 102-89 victory over Sacramento at Energy Solutions Arena.

Both teams shot just OK in the first half as Utah outscored Sacramento 32-25 while the Kings outscored the Jazz 25-22; Utah would take a slim 54-50 lead going to their locker room at halftime.  After the Kings’ Will Solomon drained a 3-pointer to get the Kings to within 80-79, Paul Millsap followed up with a block then an outlet pass to with Andrei Kirilenko scoring with 8:27 left in the game.

Kevin Martin made a trey for Sacramento who hadn’t scored since Solomon’s 3-pointer but Utah would come right back as Brewer dunked.  It took the Jazz until the midway point of the fourth quarter to finally pull away as they went on an 11-0 run, which iced the game for them.

Brewer and Okur shared high scoring honors for Utah as they scored 26 points each – with Brewer grabbing 7 rebounds, dishing out 2 assists along with 4 steals and a block while Okur hit 4 treys, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out an assist, along with 2 steals and a block; Deron Williams added 16 with a rebound, 11 assists and a steal.

Sacramento was led by Kevin Martin with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal while Rashad McCants added 17 with 2 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals; Jason Thompson grabbed 12 boards while Spencer Hawes grabbed 11 rebounds.  Utah (36-23) plays again on Sunday when they travel to Oakland to take on the Golden State Warriors while Sacramento (13-48) returns home to host the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.
