I wonder how many more times Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson will rest his starters in lieu of giving the younger players more playing, based on how his team played tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night at Target Center. Personally, I think that Nellie should use his regular rotation; Stephen Jackson, fresh from a one-game rest, led 6 Warriors in double digits as they throttled the Timberwolves 119-94.
Don’t let the 94 points allowed by Golden State be interpreted as a good defensive effort; actually it was more the result of the Timberwolves shooting only 36% from the floor. To illustrate how dominant the Warriors were, they were up by 19 in the first quarter and Anthony Randolph’s jumper with 9.7 seconds left in the first half gave Golden State a 66-35 lead at halftime. Minnesota would never seriously challenge after that.
Golden State’s high scorer was Jackson with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists while Anthony Morrow scored 17 (including 3 three-pointers) with 2 rebounds and a steal; Corey Maggette added 16 with 7 rebounds, a steal and a block, but committing 6 turnovers.
Minnesota was led by Randy Foye with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block while Kevin Love added 18 with 14 rebounds; Ryan Gomes scored 16 with 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal while Mike Miller secured a double-double as he poured in 11 with 13 rebounds. Golden State (21-39) plays again on Wednesday when they travel to Chicago to take on the Bulls while Minnesota (18-42) flies west to Los Angeles to face the Lakers on Friday.
