The Chicago Bulls have not had newly acquired John Salmons and Brad Miller – former Sacramento Kings – for very long yet they seem to be helping the Bulls in their quest for better playoff positioning. In Wednesday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors, Salmons and Miller combined for 42 points, leading Chicago to the laugher over Golden State 110-88 at the United Center; the win pulls the Bulls into a tie for the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference playoff standings.
The Warriors started hot as they built a 20-6 lead on a Marco Bellini three-pointer; the Bulls would respond in kind as they manufactured a 12-2 run, capped by a Miller putback to cut their deficit to four. Joakim Noah’s basket early in the second quarter gave Chicago a 28-26 lead; leading by six at halftime, the Bulls increased their advantage to 11 on Miller’s jumper with 3:54 remaining in the third quarter. A Derrick Rose jumper gave Chicago a 75-62 lead going into the final period. The Bulls would pull away early in the fourth quarter as Tyrus Thomas’ dunk sparked a small 6-0 spurt and Miller’s jumper gave Chicago an insurmountable 81-62 lead with 10:09 left.
Chicago’s high scorer was Salmons with 23 points, 9 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block while Miller added 19 with6 rebounds and an assist; Ben Gordon scored 15 with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block. Stephen Jackson led all Golden State players as he scored 19 points with 3 rebounds, 6 assists 2 steals and a block while Corey Maggette added 14 with 9 rebounds. Chicago (28-34) plays again on Friday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks while Golden State (21-40) makes the short trip to Detroit to face the Pistons – also on Friday night.
