The experiment of Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson isn’t exactly paying any dividends as the team hasn’t won any games that were without their leading scorer Stephen Jackson in their lineup. Friday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons would find them without Jackson in the lineup and as a result, the expected happened as balanced scoring helped Detroit easily defeat Golden State 108-92 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Pistons were off and running as they manufactured an 11-0 run late in the first quarter, capped by a Jason Maxiell jumper – giving Detroit a 31-14 lead with 2:03 left in the opening period; Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince each had 10 points in the first quarter. The Pistons would further pad their lead as they outscored the Warriors 19-2 during a 7:12 stretch, spanning the first and second quarters; they would take a comfortable 63-40 lead into halftime. The second half wasn’t much different as Detroit held a double-digit lead and would coast to the win.
Detroit’s high scorer was Hamilton with 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while Prince and Maxiell each scored 16 – with Prince grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists while Maxiell grabbed 9 boards, dished out an assist along with a steal and a block.
Golden State was led by Jamal Crawford with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and a steal while Anthony Randolph added 17 with 8 rebounds, an assist and 3 blocks; Jermareo Davidson notched a double-double as he chipped in 11 with 10 rebounds. Detroit (31-29) plays again on Saturday when they travel to Atlanta to take on the Hawks while Golden State (21-41) makes the short trip to Milwaukee to face the Bucks – also on Saturday night.
