You probably have already figured out that the 1st-seeded Connecticut Huskies, with or without coach Jim Calhoun, take care of business and continue their winning ways. In Saturday’s game against the 9th-seeded Texas A&M Aggies, not much changed – except that their coach returned after being released from the hospital after a bout with dehydration. Connecticut shot very well – 58% – and made short work of Texas A&M 92-66 at Philadelphia.
You just knew things would not go the Aggies’ way when they called their first timeout only a minute into the game and coach Mark Turgeon got rung up with a technical foul with 9:58 left in the first half. A.J. Price made his two free throws as did Hasheem Thabeet and all of a sudden it was 22-8. And you guessed it – Connecticut cruised to the embarrassingly easy victory.
Connecticut’s high scorer was Price with 27 points (including four 3-pointers), 5 rebounds and 8 assists while Jeff Adrien added 23 with 8 rebounds, an assist and a block. Texas A&M was led by Donald Sloan and Bryan Davis with 12 points each – with Sloan grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists while Davis grabbed 9 boards, dished out 2 assists along with 2 steals and 3 blocks. Connecticut plays again on Thursday in the round of 16 when they face Purdue.
